Dr Christina Ballico is a Lecturer in Popular Music Studies at the University of Aberdeen. Originally from Perth, Australia, her research examines the structure and function of place-based music industries and scenes, with a particular focus on those which are geographically isolated and positioned as peripheral. Her research explores a combination of career, business, and infrastructure development, as well as music-related urban governance, including the role of music in creative and cultural cities paradigms. She is widely published in these areas, including being the editor of Geographically Isolated and Peripheral Music Scenes: Global insights and perspectives (Palgrave, 2021), and the co-editor of Music Cities: Evaluating a global cultural policy concept (Palgrave, 2020), and undertaking a range of research consultancies for not-for-profit arts advocacy bodies and government arts departments in her native Australia. She has recently been appointed to the Board of Culture North East.
