Fatima has a professional and academic background in journalism and international development. She studied Journalism at Robert Gordon University before completing postgraduate studies in International Development at the University of Birmingham, following several years as a journalist.

She has since worked for an MEP, MP and now an MSP, gaining experience across three parliaments. In 2022, she was elected to Aberdeenshire Council, representing Westhill District and serving on committees including Communities and substitute membership on Education.

As a fiddle player, Fatima has publicly supported Scotland’s music scene, supporting free music tuition, investment in traditional music and a minimum income for artists.
